Youth Sermon #2: Singing: with Soul and Voice

Praise is when your heart speaks. Our heart praises what we love. Our souls either send out praise when we get what we want, or when we give what we can. Praise, is meant to be given to God.

Singing with our soul is something God alone is witness to. God knows our hearts. He knows what we are thinking. And when we make choices that are made in love, He is witness to them. Our soul sings praise by making choices based in love.

Singing with our voices, is different.

When we sing a song that celebrates what we want, we are celebrating ourselves. We sing of freedoms and of rebellion, we sing of liberties and of prides. We are praising what we want, and it gives strength to our wants.

When we instead sing a song that celebrates our Love for God, we are sending praise to God. It is a love. Our hearts are choosing to celebrate the unseen quality of Love, and the honor it is to share it. This kind of singing, is an act of faith. And God rewards those who please Him.

Singing to God by yourself, even just in your head, shows God you love Him. Singing to God as a group, shows others you openly love Him. So when by yourself, you sing to God, you are putting God first in your mind. And we singing to God as part of a group, you are showing others God is in your heart.

Singing to God with your soul or your voice, is also a way to busy yourself. You already know that when you allow your mind to wander, it begins to find worries and bad thoughts. So singing love to God, is a way to keep yourself occupied with love. And the more you do this, the better you day becomes.

Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.

There is no song that honors God, like the one you sing from your heart or your acts of love. Even if you have no words, just humming or whistling with love of God in your heart, is praise that honors Him. You can sing songs that are made to praise God, and known by many. But there is no song that honors God, like the one you sing from your heart or your acts of love.

Sing for God. You are loved. Be loving.
