Over the last few years, I have gone from being overwhelmed by my emotions, to recognizing them as they come. I consider this a development of perseverance in faithfulness. I still have room for growth, as, I still slander others in certain circumstances. Which, when I read that passage above; I find that bitterness, rage and anger are emotions that are the root of my slanderous acts. You see, the heart and mind supply, what we then choose to react to.
What happens when we react to these negative feelings is, we are not being loving. And anything that is not founded in love bears bad fruit. These negative aspects affect not only our ability to love, but become influential on those who are witness to it. This influence on others manifests additional reactions in them that they carry forward in their day. That means they are not being loving either. So we have now created spiritual cost with our emotional displays.
This is what is meant by trespass. Trespass is not just stealing something or murdering someone, or coveting their possessions or spouse. Trespass is spiritual. You are stealing their ability to bear loving fruit. You are murdering their hope. You are supplying hatred where love could be. Trespass is very much spiritual.

So the solution is to stop the trespass with love. Forgiveness, and repent. (Forgive my trespasses Father, as I forgive those who trespass against me). You must seek to have love come through you, to bear its fruit by its Truth. (Love, let your kingdom come upon me).

When you sense that someone in your presence is bearing negative fruits, as you are aware, it becomes your opportunity to overcome this negative force with faith in the authority Love has over all. So you turn the other cheek, and you instead forgive and supply fruits based in love. If done in sincerity, the light disperses the darkness, and it can not linger.
Our daily bread, is the sufferance that we carry, much like, forgiving trespass. So we can look at the trespasses of others against us, as an opportunity to forgive and be loving. Christ Jesus set a rule for forgiveness.

There are some who have heard the Truth and have not listened. They use the name of Jesus and the grace found by his blood, to empower their emotional reactions. This is harmful and destructive. They are corrupted by hatred. They do not seek to correct they only seek to create doubt, and hurt. They are not forgiving, instead they pour out judgement and condemnation. These so called believers are to be forgiven in secret with silent prayer, and asked that blessings be poured out upon them.

Pray for those who harm you.
